These two days (Day 2 and Day 3) will be a bit of a blur I reckon…
Day 2 is the pre-wedding dinner. We started with bubbles at White Marble Bar in Hoi An (this beautiful former capital in Central Vietnam with lots of quaint, old houses and delicious food) followed by a sunset boat ride to Red Bridge restaurant (where they do fun cooking classes) for more drinks and then finally dinner.
Free flow, as any borderline alcoholic knows, is very dangerous. Especially free flow bubbles… oh my…. suffice to say everyone had a great time, some of us at Le Belhamy (name of the hotel we’re staying in, very nice - even the cheapest rooms have sunken bath tubs and stone tiles - although the service could be a little better, but they’re still very new so that’s forgiven) came back around midnight for a dip in the pool with lots of beers, although there were a few people who could be found wandering around the resort grounds at 1.30 am half-naked, not really sure where their rooms are!!!! (Happy to say I wasn’t one of them - had four bottles of water before going to bed)
Both the bride and the groom look lovely and very happy, if a trifle stressed - boy, don’t I know the stress!!! - and it was soooo nice to catch up with friends and loved ones who were such a big part of my life during my stint in Vietnam.
Tonight’s the big night. We have service at the Danang Cathedral later in the day followed by dinner at the Nam Hai, an uber-posh hotel. More bubbles await.
The wedding couple has been very understanding - one of the wedding gifts we received when we checked in at the hotel was a bag in the wedding colours - white and turquoise - and inside were lots of beautiful tit-bits and souvenirs but I reckon the one that many of us will be thankful for and using tomorrow morning is a small little packet of Oral Rehydration Salts…
